Hormel Foods Sales, LLC has issued a recall for some of its Planters nuts products due to fears that the products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a recall notice posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) website. Here’s what to know:

Which Planters nut products are impacted?

There are currently only two Planters nuts products included in the recall.

  • Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts: 4-ounce packages with the UPC code of 2900002097 and a Best if Used By Date (BIUB) date of 04 11 25.
  • Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts: 8.75-ounce cans with the UPC code of 2900001621 and a Best if Used By Date (BIUB) date of 05APR26.

You can view product photos of the packages on the FDA’s website here and pictures of the labels on the Planters recall website here.

Where were the potentially contaminated nuts sold?

According to the recall notice, the potentially contaminated nuts were shipped to Publix distribution warehouses in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. They were also shipped to Dollar Tree distribution warehouses in Georgia and South Carolina.

Has anyone gotten sick from the recalled nuts?

Thankfully, there are currently no reports of illnesses related to the recalled products.

What is Listeria monocytogenes?

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacteria that can cause severe illness and even death in people who consume it. This is especially true if the person is a young child, frail, elderly, or has a weakened immune system. Listeria can also cause stillbirths and miscarriages in pregnant women.

Symptoms of an infection can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, headaches, nausea, and stiffness.

What should I do if I purchased the recalled nuts?

If you have the recalled products, you should discard them immediately or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions can contact Hormel Foods Customer Relations using the web form here or call them at 1-800-523-4635.
