The advertising category of Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards honors campaigns designed to draw attention to social issues or initiatives that push to create the change themselves. This year’s winner, Microsoft and McCann Worldgroup, worked with two brothers from Guinea to digitize the ADLaM alphabet that they’d created for their native Pulaar language. This new typeface is helping accelerate adoption of the alphabet and protecting the language of 60 million Fulani people from extinction.
