IRS says it will stop using facial recognition after controversy over ID.me verification

The tax agency had been working with a third-party company called ID.me to set up a system to verify taxpayer identities.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) says it will transition away from using facial recognition software to identify taxpayers, amid controversy over its deal with the private identity verification company ID.me.
